FINDING THE PERFECT WEDDING VENUE
One of the most important elements to planning the wedding of your dreams is finding that perfect venue to bring your vision to life. We see a lot of couples who are looking for a specific colour palette but then choose a venue that completely clashes with their inspiration photos. But it isn't always about design, you need to do your research into a venue before booking your date, so you aren't shocked with hidden costs or restrictions.
To help you prepare and be aware of your options, we're outlining some rules of engagement when it comes to finding that perfect wedding venue.
1. what vibe does it give off?
Look around, do the colours of the carpet and walls compliment the design you had in mind. Are there lots of windows, where does the sunset, what kind of mood does the lighting give off. Are there pictures on the wall that you can't take down? You need to determine what is important to you and then make a checklist and do a proper site visit.
2. maximum capacity
A lot of venues will tell you they have a maximum capacity, but what you really need to know is what is the maximum number of tables they can fit in a room. You could have 15 round tables with 10 people per table to get 150 guests, but if you want charger plates in your design then you have to go down to 8 people per table, which now means you need almost 19 tables - and unfortunately your venue can only fit 15. You also need to consider if your venue has space for a dance floor, or if they will be moving tables after dinner to create a dance area - guests will then need to clear the room in order for the venue to make this happen, which means you should consider planning an event that takes place to keep them occupied.
3. hidden costs
Read the fine print! Some venues will charge you a plug-in fee that is mandatory, and sometimes there can be costs associated with bringing in outside vendors. If it is a barn or tent wedding you'll need to figure out if it is your responsibility to bring in tables and chairs, place settings, catering equipment, drinking water, etc.
4. unique alternatives
Sometimes you need to think outside of the box and understand that you are not limited to a wedding in a ballroom or a barn. Finding an open field to bring in a tent, using the tennis courts at a resort, having a smaller wedding on a boat, all of these options and so many more are why it is helpful to hire a wedding planner to aid in the hunt for a wedding venue.
As you can see there is a lot more thought that goes into choosing a wedding venue for your special day. Our biggest piece of advice is hiring your wedding planner before you choose your venue, they can assist with all the questions and help find that perfect spot that is going to bring your vision to life.
